Amina El Mekaoui is a researcher of the Mexican National Science Council’s Researchers in Mexico program assigned to the Social Science Research Unit “Dr. Hideyo Noguchi” of the Autonomous University of Yucatan, Mexico, with the project: “Towards new social policies for the sustainable development of the energy sector in Yucatan, Mexico”. She is a member of the Mexican National Search System Level – 1. Member of the Governing Council of the Arab Council of Social Sciences (ACSS).

Currently, she is the technical manager of the National Strategic Program: ‘Sustainable Mayan communities: towards the design of new trans-regional and integral rural energy models for the sustainable development of the state of Yucatan’, approved within the framework of the FOP04-2021-03 call “RESEARCH AND ADVOCACY PROJECTS TO TRANSITION TO A SOCIALLY AND ENVIRONMENTALLY SUSTAINABLE ENERGY SYSTEM.

She holds a PhD in Social Anthropology and a Master in Social Anthropology from the Autonomous Metropolitan University – Iztapalapa, Mexico, a Master in Sociology of the Family and a first degree in Sociology from Mohammed V University, Rabat, Morocco.
